Hi,
I'm about to start my first Homematic installation for central heating and after reading a lot and using Google translate, I'm still a bit confused. My first problem is that I read that it's recommended to use Groups for devices that are to be linked, such as TRVs and Wall Thermostats.
Does this mean that I don't bother to use Rooms in the Web UI, or do I use both?
Thanks!
Pat

Re: Difference between Rooms and Groups
"Room" is just a definition used by the WebGUI, so you as user can see where the parts are. There is absolut no logical connection based on rooms.
"Group" is a feature that initiates direct connections between all members, so they talk to each other directly, not via the central.
In my house the ground floor is complet open, kitchen, dinning room and living room are one big room. I've sorted the devices to 3 different "rooms" to find them faster in webgui, but there is one big "group" for the heating related stuff.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Sven

Re: Difference between Rooms and Groups
Hello Pat, wellcome here!
As said, "rooms" are mostly for the comfort of the admin , as well as the "functions".
Later, when you are a more experienced user, for instance you may want to switch off all lights when you are leaving your house.
Working with scripts, you can program something like: "For each member of function 'Light', if state is 'on' then switch off".

2. CCU2 per VPN mit ~50 Geräten (geplant: RaspberryMatic auf Charly)
3. CCU2 per VPN mit ~40 Geräten (geplant: RaspberryMatic auf CCU3)
CCU1, Test-CCU2, Raspi 1 mit kleinem Funkmodul, RaspberryMatic als VM unter Proxmox, Access Point,...
- Bezeichnung (HM-... bzw.

Re: Difference between Rooms and Groups
Thanks Roland, it's a pretty steep learning curve! I have been trying to decide on a system for more than six months now. I got a Max! controller and some TRVs but had to send it back. Now I have RaspberryMatic and the new RPI-RF-MOD with TRVs and thermostats, a 4 channel controller and some dual temperature sensors.
