Radiator thermostat challenge

Beitrag von Dolph » 10.08.2023, 00:08

Hi,

for the last 10 years I have been happily running a CCU2 and a number of HM-CC-RT-DN radiator thermostats.

Unfortunately one of the thermostats has broken and finding a replacement in the UK is proving impossible.

It also appears that "local" learning of Homematic IP thermostats is not possible on the CCU2.

Does anyone have a suggestion for the best course of action?

Do I need to buy a CCU3? Can I buy an IP access point (such as this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195845731344 ... gKPevD_BwE) and still use my CCU2?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Dolph,

it is not possible to teach newer HmIP devices to the CCU2. This applies in particular to devices whose type designation ends with "-2".

The usual route would be to upgrade to a CCU3. Buy - import the data backup from the CCU2 - done. Then you have an up-to-date control center that can handle all new devices. Please note that there is no direct link between HM and HmIP devices. You need central programs for this. Also note that it is not possible to create heating groups that contain different devices (HM and HmIP).

An access point can only be connected to HmIP devices. So you would have to run both systems in parallel. However, this has the major disadvantage that the devices on the access point and the CCU do not know anything about each other, which excludes sensible operation. The easiest way is to use a CCU3.

On the other hand: Maybe it's possible to get the spare parts set for the HM-CC-RT-DN in England.

Many thanks for the reply.

The HM-CC-RT-DN was too dead for that but a nice idea!

I'll have to bite the bullet and order a CCU3

Thanks again.

It's certainly the best decision!
The CCU2 is already end-of-life for about two years and recently eQ-3 announced to discontinue the Homematic line (not Homematic IP!), so it's likely that problems will occur in the near future.

  • Bezeichnung (HM-... bzw.

3. CCU2 per VPN mit ~40 Geräten (geplant: RaspberryMatic auf CCU3)

Just a note

You can find old cheap HM devices used on
https://www.ebay.de/
https://www.kleinanzeigen.de/

And with the seller you can arrange UK shipping

But yes CCU3 or RaspberryMatic for sure better than the old CCU2.
And you can download the CCU2 backup and upload it to CCU3/RaspberryMatic

And with the CCU3 or RaspberryMatic you can use all of these HomematicIP devices:
